This 33 litre plastic fermenting bucket is suitable for making beer, wine and cider at home. Made from durable, food-grade polypropylene, it is BPA-free, easy to clean, and strong enough for regular brewing.
The extra capacity makes it useful for primary fermentation, where you need to leave space above the liquid for foam, gas and fermentation activity. This space is known as headspace. Beer can produce a thick foamy head during fermentation, often called krausen, while cider and wine can also foam during active fermentation, especially at the start.
Although the bucket has a 33L capacity, it should not normally be filled to the top for fermentation. For most beer, wine and cider fermentations, we recommend a maximum working volume of around 25 to 26 litres. This leaves enough room for normal fermentation activity and helps reduce the risk of overflowing through the lid or airlock.
For standard 23 litre beer, wine or cider kits, this bucket gives a comfortable amount of headspace, making it a practical choice for homebrewers.
Accessories such as taps, airlocks
or grommets may vary depending on the selected product option, so please
check the chosen variant before ordering.
Remember to leave Headspace
As a simple rule, leave at least 20% of the bucket empty for active fermentation. In a 33L bucket, that gives a practical upper working volume of about 26L. Some fermentations create more foam than others, so leaving extra room is always safer than overfilling. Homebrew retailers commonly pair 25L-style fermenters with 23L beer, wine, or cider batches, leaving room for fermentation foam to rise above the liquid.
For secondary fermentation,
clearing, or long-term storage, less headspace is usually preferred
because the drink is no longer producing as much protective CO₂. For
that stage, it is usually better to transfer to a more suitably sized
vessel rather than leaving a small volume in a large bucket.
FAQ
Can I ferment 33 litres in this bucket?
No. Although the bucket capacity is 33 L, you should not fill it to the top during active fermentation. Yeast creates foam and gas, so you need to leave headspace.
What is the maximum amount I can ferment?
For most beer, wine, and cider fermentations, around 25-26 litres is a sensible maximum. For very active beers, keep closer to 23 to 25 litres.
Is this suitable for 23L beer kits?
Yes. A 33L bucket is well-suited to standard 23L beer kits because it leaves enough room for fermentation foam.
Can I use it for wine and cider?
Yes. It is suitable for beer, wine and cider making.
Is the bucket food-grade?
Yes. The manufacturer lists the bucket as food-grade and BPA-free.
Does it come with a lid, tap or airlock?
That depends on the selected product option. Some versions may include extras, while others may be bucket-only. Check the selected option before ordering.
