A Brief History of the Farm
The McKeever family have been farming in Northern Ireland for over three generations, focussing on Bramley apple production and passing down different methods and traditions from generation to generation. Pat and Peter McKeever oversee the cider making process, pressing and fermenting apples naturally in The Long Meadow.
The Long Meadow is known locally for the quality of its Bramley apples, located close to the Upper Bann River which rises in the Deer’s Meadow in the Mourne Mountains and flows past The Long Meadow on its way to Lough Neagh. Apples are selected for particular properties of yield, season, flavour and use and new apple varieties are propagated by grafting. The oldest apple trees are planted on M1-11 rootstock, which are vigorous growers and can carry up to half a tonne of apples. 12 acres of orchard have recently been replaced with trees on M9 rootstock, which limits the growth and height to no more than 8’ (2.4m).
This lengthy history has enabled the McKeever family to perfect their art of cider making, apple pressing and production of apple cider vinegar with many health benefits. From pressing freshly picked apples to monitoring fermentation processes, every step of the cider making process at Longmeadow Family Farm is taken seriously. Through careful apple selection and attention to detail during cider making and apple pressing, the farm produces high quality ciders that bring out the distinct flavor of each apple variety. Beyond just producing delicious ciders, apple cider vinegar also offers several notable health benefits including improved digestion, reduced cholesterol levels, boosted immunity and improved heart health. While some may opt for store bought apple cider vinegar, nothing compares to fresh pressed apple cider vinegar straight from the source. For those looking to take advantage of these numerous apple cider vinegar benefits, as well as enjoy some of the finest craft ciders available, be sure to check out Longmeadow Family Farm!

The process starts with hand-picked apples that are pressed into fresh juice. The juice is then fermented in French oak barrels until it develops a unique flavour. After this, the cider is blended and bottled on site.
In addition to producing cider, the McKeever family also make apple cider vinegar and freshly pressed apple juice. The apple pressing process is carried out carefully to preserve the natural nutrients of the apples and ensure the best quality. Apple cider vinegar has many health benefits, such as aiding digestion and promoting weight loss.

What Are the Benefits of Buying Local?
Buying local has become increasingly popular over the years, as more and more people are becoming conscious of the environmental impact of their purchasing decisions. When you buy local, you are purchasing items that have been grown or manufactured near your home. This can help to stimulate the economy, create or retain jobs, and support local families and cultures.
Not only does buying local provide an economic boost, but it also ensures better quality control over the items you purchase. Many times, locally-made products have fewer chemicals and contaminants than those produced elsewhere. Additionally, there are fewer transportation costs associated with buying local since the product doesn’t have to travel long distances.
Buying local also presents a unique networking opportunity among businesses. By sourcing materials and products from other local vendors, businesses can form strong partnerships and collaborations. This can lead to increased business opportunities and expanded customer reach.
It’s important to keep in mind that buying local doesn’t always mean it is environmentally friendly. Some vendors may use materials or packaging that is not recyclable or compostable. Therefore, it is important to think responsibly before making the decision to buy local.
When it comes to cider making and apple pressing, buying local can be especially beneficial. Longmeadow Family Farm produces high-quality cider, freshly pressed apple juice, and apple cider vinegar that all utilize apples grown in Northern Ireland. Buying these products from Longmeadow ensures a fresher taste and higher quality than what is available elsewhere. Apple cider vinegar also offers a variety of health benefits, such as helping to improve digestion, reducing blood sugar levels, and boosting energy.
