Brewing Sugar 1kg

Dextrose Monohydrate (glucose) is a highly fermentable brewing sugar with a much cleaner flavour than household sugar. Use as a direct replacement for normal household sugar in beer, wine or cider kits.

Dextrose is a simple, highly refined sugar that is fully fermentable. This sugar is popular with brewers because it gives consistent and predictable results.

Different sugars can be used in the brewing process; each has a different characteristic on the final taste of the beer, wine or cider. Brewing sugar is the most popular type of sugar that is added for several reasons:
 1. As it is a powder rather than crystals, there is little chance of the fermenters being scratched.
 2. The Brewing Sugar will dissolve more easily.
 3. Brewing sugar is 100% fermentable.
 4. Brewing Sugar ferments easier than household sugar.
 5. Brewing Sugar gives the beer, wine and cider a cleaner flavour.

In additions of less than 10%, it adds nothing in terms of flavour, but it does help lighten the body of your beer, making the hop character shine. Adding over 10% dextrose can thin out your beer's body, giving it a 'cider-like' flavour.
Dextrose can be added at any stage in the brewing process as long as it is kept free of moisture, as this will change how many gravity points can be added. Moisture can also provide a medium for bacteria and wild yeast to grow, so it's best to keep moisture out.

The Difference?
Regarding fermentation, the difference between brewing and regular sugar is how the yeast processes the sugar. Both monosaccharides and disaccharides are 100% fermentable, but the monosaccharides are easier to ferment by the yeast in brewing sugar. Disaccharides like table sugar require the yeast to break the sugar molecules' bonds, which means the yeast creates additional compounds. The yeast uses An enzyme called invertase, which breaks down sucrose in simpler sugars like glucose.

What quantity do I use?
Brewing sugar can be used as a direct substitute for standard sugar, so if you need 1Kg sugar, you can use 1Kg Brewing Sugar.
Corn sugar yields around 42 gravity points per pound per gallon (or 120g per litre)

Can you use Brewing Sugar for priming?

Yes, you can use Brewing Sugar for priming beer and cider. Ideally better suited for priming barrels, we would recommend carbonation drops for bottles.
